Natural Resources Practice Leader

Role

Mountain States Legal Foundation seeks a lead natural resources attorney with significant ESA, NEPA, FLPMA, and other natural resources administrative law/litigation experience.

MSLF is a nonprofit, public interest legal foundation dedicated to individual liberty, the right to own and use property, limited and ethical government, and the free enterprise system.

Responsibilities

The natural resources practice leader will develop and implement litigation strategy to litigate natural resources cases from the filing of a complaint or petition through appeal; assist the General Counsel in overseeing and mentoring less-experienced litigators and staff; and communicate MSLF objectives and cases to donors, the media, and others. Attorneys are responsible for their own caseload supporting the responsible use of natural resources and opposing the elimination of agricultural and energy sector uses of land.

Qualifications
  • 6-10 years of legal experience with a focus on ESA, NEPA, FLPMA, and other environmental land use litigation.
  • Significant litigation experience before administrative agencies and in federal courts, with working knowledge of federal rules of civil procedure and administrative practice.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Licensed to practice law in Colorado or eligible to waive into the Colorado bar.
  • Team leader and mentor.
  • Passion for MSLF’s mission: a deep interest in protecting individual liberty, the right to own and use property, limited and ethical government, and the free enterprise system.
