Imagine waking up one day to find yourself smeared as a “racist” and charged for a crime you didn’t commit.
This is a chilling thought.
But for one mother it became a harsh reality.
As she watched the school board make radical changes in the name of “equity”, weaken curriculum, and make her children’s schools more dangerous by removing security officers, Kristen Fry knew she had to speak out against the school system. Two school shootings only confirmed the need for her to speak up.
Instead of an open dialogue about how to improve the public schools, members of the school board orchestrated a smear campaign. But that wasn’t enough for them. Next, they hit Kristen with false charges of physical assault—making her life a living nightmare. And even worse, the school system withheld video evidence that clearly showed she is innocent.
Kristen is not a public figure or a political activist with an agenda. She’s a mother, just like any other, who cares deeply about her children’s safety and education. She’s the kind of mom who volunteers at school events, attends PTA meetings, and takes time out of her already busy schedule to ensure her kids, and all kids, have a safe place to learn.
No person should have to go through this.
We’re suing Denver Public Schools (DPS) on behalf of Kristen Fry. Our complaint alleges that Ms. Fry was targeted for harsh retaliation simply because she spoke out against dangerous policies that contributed to lawlessness and violence in DPS schools.
The lawsuit alleges that four DPS board members, along with politically connected consultants, made an example of Ms. Fry by smearing her reputation and by falsely accusing her of committing a racist hate crime and physical assault during a public meeting.
Ms. Fry was criminally charged, banned from school board sessions, and even lost her volunteer role. After Kristen’s criminal defense team finally got DPS to turn over video evidence that had been withheld for months, the charges were dismissed.
The injustice she faced is not an isolated incident but a stark example of how our fundamental freedoms are under attack.
False accusations have a ripple effect. They harm families, damage reputations, and create financial burdens that can be devastating. More importantly, they set dangerous precedents that threaten our constitutional freedoms, particularly our First Amendment rights.
