MSLF Signals New Focus on First Amendment, Election Law, By Hiring Tyler Martinez as Senior Attorney

Denver, Colorado — April 6, 2021 — Mountain States Legal Foundation today announced the hiring of Colorado native and University of Colorado alumni Tyler Martinez as senior attorney, signaling the Denver firm’s desire to up its game on First Amendment law and branch out into election law issues.

Martinez has practiced First Amendment and election law since 2011. In addition to his work as a litigator, Tyler is a lecturer on First Amendment, campaign finance, nonprofit tax, and administrative law. On these topics, he has educated lawyers and law students, and taught continuing legal education seminars.

He earned his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School, while winning accolades for his advocacy skills and serving as Executive Editor of the Journal on Telecommunications and High Technology Law and President of the school’s Federalist Society. Tyler is licensed to practice law in Colorado and the District of Columbia. He is further admitted to the bars of the Supreme Court of the United States, D.C. Circuit, Fourth Circuit, Tenth Circuit, and various district courts across the country.

This is MSLF’s second major hire of the year, following the February 17 announcement that Will Trachman would be coming aboard as new Associate General Counsel. And MSLF President and CEO Cristen Wohlgemuth is energized by the infusion of new talent to an already impressive legal team.

“Tyler brings a wealth of experience in both elections and First Amendment law, which will significantly expand Mountain State’s ability to respond to the growing threat to liberty in these two issue areas,” said Wohlgemuth. “As a Colorado native, he understands how these threats uniquely impact our Western way of life. And he’s got that determination and fighting spirit we like to have on our team.”

“I’m excited to join Mountain States to protect our core political freedoms,” said Martinez. “Now more than ever our liberties are under attack and it is time to be proactive in defending them.”
