MSLF Welcomes New CKBA Director

The fight against bureaucrats and politicians who would take away our right to self-defense requires strong leadership. The movement to restore our rights to make a free country for a free people needs experts who can take the Constitution on the offense. America needs lawyers for liberty.

That is why Mountain States Legal Foundation is thrilled to announce the arrival of our new Director of the Center to Keep & Bear Arms, Michael McCoy. He brings with him over 20 years of litigation expertise and service to his country.

In early 2002, Michael received a direct commission in the United States Air Force as a JAG Officer. He has served as trial counsel in Courts-Martial and provided other legal services to the military. In 2005, Michael volunteered for a yearlong deployment to Baghdad, Iraq to help the Iraqis set up a tribunal to investigate and prosecute Saddam Hussein and other high-ranking members of the Ba’ath Party regime.

Michael has worked on a wide variety of criminal cases, including homicides, domestic violence, and sexual assault cases. From the earliest time in his career, Michael has understood what it means to serve justice. With such a wide variety of litigation experience, Mountain States is excited for what Michael will do to advance the vision of MSLF’s Center to Keep & Bear Arms.

In 2008, Michael left active-duty military service (but today is a Lt. Colonel in the California Air National Guard) and became an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of Illinois. As an AUSA in Illinois, he prosecuted a wide variety of federal crimes, including drug conspiracy, child exploitation, fraud, bank robbery, environmental, and immigration offenses. With extensive experience in federal appellate courts, Michael knows how the government thinks, how it argues cases—and most importantly, how to defend Americans and their rights.

On joining Mountain States as its new CKBA director, Michael said, “I think this is a job that is particularly exciting to me because of my love of history and my love of the Constitution. Those two things coming together as well as my 20 years of being a prosecutor I think meld well and make it so I can be effective when it comes to taking on Second Amendment issues and making it clear that this amendment was put in place for a reason by our Founders.”

Americans see now more than ever how the Second Amendment is under unprecedented attack. With a new CKBA director, Mountain States is determined to not only defend against those attacks, but take the fight to would-be tyrants. We are ready and committed to take the Constitution on the offense and make advances for the Second Amendment-protected rights of all Americans.

Welcome, Michael McCoy!

A Major Win for the Second Amendment in New Mexico

Statement from CKBA Director on Colorado Gun Ban Proposal

MSLF’s Center to Keep and Bear Arms is aware of reports that a so-called Assault Weapons Ban will be introduced in the Colorado legislature. We urge legislators to reject such a plan, given that a bill of this nature would be unconstitutional and cost the state unnecessary taxpayer funds to lose and pay attorney fees. If a bill is enacted that prohibits law-abiding citizens from carrying commonly used firearms, the Center stands ready to go to court to fight for our Second Amendment-protected rights.
